Detailed Interpretation

When communicating this process should be followed;

The Communications Process Diagram

The source encodeds a message (turns it into apporopriate language or gestures) and transmits it through a channel, this could be online, face to face, text or any other communication tool. The reciever recieves the message and decodes it so that they can understand it, they will then report back to the source letting them know if they have understood or not.

By understanding this model of communication you can understand how it works and how to use it, communication isn’t a simple as many people think and having good communication can mean a lot. Using this model you will realise that different people decode messages differently and you will have to encode your messages and use the correct channel for them to understand the best. This is increasing the effectiveness of your communication and can save time as well as having many other benefits.

I scored the worse in choosing the right channel where I scored 8 out of 15. This is basically choosing what method of communication to use and how to do it. Complex messages should be done face to face so you can adjust your words.

The following should be used when considering the best method of communicating.

Sensitive and emotional content should be done face to face, Detail should be done depending on how the receiver understands best, and you may have to use diagrams and pictures or maybe even voice. Talking face to face can also take a lot of time especially if they are on the other side of planet Earth so it is often better to compromise and use video conferencing. Meetings are often good if they may need to ask lots of questions. Texting would be a bad channel when lots of questions need to be asked and answered.

I have a strong kinesthetic learning preference; this means that I should learn by trial and error, using all 5 senses, field trips, examples, real life situations and applications. To improve note taking I should shorten notes, include examples and use pictures.

I also have a strong reading and writing preference; this means that I take in information from handouts, lists and reading. I learn by writing words out over and over again. I should also write things in alternate words when studying.

Being aware of your learning style means you can learn more efficiently. This means you will be more likely to underastand information to the fullest and retain the information in your head. There are three main types of learning style, Kinaesthetic, Visual and Auditory. Kinaesthetic is learning in a practical way with your body and touching things to learn, for example they may like to learn about computer components by taking one appart and rebuilding rather than watching or listening to the parts being spoken aloud. Visual learners often understand information best with videos, diagrams and people who use hand gestures and show a lot of expression. This is so that they can interpret the information and retain it better. An auditory learner will learn best through listening, they may like to listen to important information over and over or reading over and over so that they can hear it, they like to work in a quite environment to ensure that they listen and focus on the right thing.

Once you are aware of your learning style you can try to use it as much as possible when learning on your own. By knowing your strengths you can try and work on your weaknesses so that you improve all round. Knowing your strengths also means that you can take notes when your learning style is not available and then turn it into your learning type later, for example you could listen to a lecture and take notes and visualize key words later or do more research on the keywords and make sure that you watch videos as you are a visual learner.
